type 2 brazilian

The roof we manufacture for the Brazilian T2 is based on the later Westfalia Roof that was fitted to 1974 VW campervans onwards. It is a three-quarter length, front lifting, rear hinged roof that runs from the back gutter to the front doors.

We fit a 45 inch x 6' 8" foot bed into the roof. Once the roof is fitted the height of your van will be approximately 2 metres (although vans themselves do vary in height). Our roof is much easier to raise and lower than the original Westfalia as we use external gas struts and hinges.

Type 2 Baywindow Van

Technical Info

To fit this roof we remove the whole of the Brazilian roof from just behind the front cross member all the way to the rear gutter. We then weld in a 40 x 40 x 3 mm steel framework down both sides of the van. This framework is then covered by 1 mm powder coated pressed steel sections that form the inner headlining of the van and support for the bed. A 1 mm pressed steel powder coated section is fitted at the rear of the van which provides strength for the roof and support for the bed. A pressed steel and powder coated cross member is then fitted midway along the van to support both bed sections and restrengthen the roof.

The hinges are designed to lift the front of the roof by 43 inches and the back of the roof by 10 inches. These and the gas struts are fixed outside of the canopy to prevent any possible leak problems.

The fibre glass top comes in Candy White. We can supply it colour coded (at extra cost). Straight colours can be added to the gel coat of the fibre glass. The canopy is a modern acrylic coated sail canvas that is available in a variety of colours (see the extras page to chose your colour). The material is impregnation coated, 100% polyester, abrasion, mildew and ultra-violet resistant and is produced with a clear seal coat to provide a high degree of water resistance. The choice of canopy colour is included in the price of your roof - visit the extras page to see the range of colours.

The lead time for the roof is roughly 3 weeks. For fitting, we will require your van for a week, and customers usually bring their van down on a Friday or Saturday and collect the following Friday or Saturday.

When supplied as a kit, the roof comes with headlining, gas struts, hinges, handles, seals, locking straps and canopy already fitted. The only thing you should need to buy is a tube of silicone sealant.

To supply and fit one of our roofs to a steel roofed panel van or mini bus is £2950 plus vat.

To supply and fit our roof to a van already fitted with a fibreglass pop top is £3100 plus vat. This extra cost is to remove and dispose of your old fibreglass roof.

We can supply 2 inch bed foam at a cost of £80 (£96). We can also arrange for covers to the foam to be made. Cushion covers (in a choice of colours) in a marine grade vinyl with zips are £200 (plus vat) or £220 (plus vat) with zips and piping.

The fibre glass top comes in Candy White as standard. This can be colour coded for an extra charge (usually about £100, more for a metallic colour). Straight colours are added to the gel coat of the fibre glass.

Our standard headlining is a dark grey, velour type, foam backed fabric which lines the inside of the fibreglass roof and covers the framework and bed boards. We can now offer the choice of a coloured foam backed vinyl headlining. This comes in a choice of 24 colours and the cost is £100 plus vat. This material is a marine grade vinyl that is easy to clean, antibacterial and mildew resistant. Contact us for swatches.
