Splitscreen

A Turret Top roof for your VW T1 Splitscreen, a modern take on the Westfalia SO42 with a wide choice of canopy colours. Provides headspace so you can get changed or cook standing up!

Our SO42 Turret Top elevating roof creates headroom between the first and second cross members. It has the same look, feel and dimensions of the original SO42 roof, but with scissor hinges and modern marine grade fabric for the canopy. With its 3 windows, the roof brings light and space into your VW T1 van. The roof creates around 95cm x 84cm of standing room with 50cm of head height. So now you can stand up to get naked in your van!

Top features

  • Choice of modern acrylic canopy colours included in the price: rot and mould resistant, water resistant and UV stable. Our standard marine grade fabric offers 18 colour choices
  • Or we offer an optional extra of the thicker Sauleda fabric, available in a choice of 50 colours
  • The canopy comes with 3 windows, with grey flyscreen and velcro flaps
  • Headlining comes as standard in grey velour or is available in a choice of 9 colours, in a marine grade vinyl (optional extra)
  • Fibreglass shell can be colour coded to any colour of your choice
  • Hinges fixed outside to prevent any possible leak problems

DIY kit

The VW Splitscreen roof comes as a kit which would take a practical DIYer 3 days to fit, or it can be fitted by ourselves, or at any good garage (see our fitters list for garages across the UK and Europe who have previously fitted our roofs).

If you are having the roof supplied as a kit, it comes fully assembled, with headlining, hinges, handles, seals, locking straps, and canopy already fitted. We supply everything down to nuts, bolts, pop rivets, etc. The only thing you should need to buy is a tube of silicone sealant.

The kit comes with comprehensive fitting instructions, and with us at the end of the phone if you have any queries.

Simon, our man with a van, can deliver a roof to you anywhere in the UK for £1.65 per mile plus vat (so if you live 100 miles away, the cost is £165 plus vat).

If you would like a quote for international shipping or haulage, please contact us.

one day fit

We can fit our roofs to some VW Splitscreen vans in one day (cost is an additional £250 plus vat). This service can only be provided for tin top vans, or where you have removed your existing roof. Contact support@spaceroofs.co.uk to talk through this service.

fitting option

For fitting - we can either do this for you, or we can suggest a number of fitters in the UK and abroad. Any good garage should be able to do this for you too.

For fitting in our workshop, we ask to have your van for a week and customers usually bring their van down on a Friday or Saturday and collect the following Friday or Saturday. Thinking of holidaying whilst you are in Devon? We can fit your roof in a shorter timescale if your van and current roof meet certain criteria. Email support@spaceroofs.co.uk

framework & strengthening

The hole cut in the steel roof of the van is approximately 95cm (37 inches) x 84cm (33 inches) and runs between both the front and middle cross members. As no cross members are removed, the roof does not need any additional strengthening. We supply a plywood framework that is fitted around the cut hole. This enables the area to be trimmed.

Measurements

The hinges are designed to lift the roof by 50cm (20 inches). The standing area the roof offers is around 95cm (37 inches) x 84cm (33 inches). When the roof is closed it adds approx 14cm to the height to your van.
